I read this morning that Toyota has passed GM into the #1 spot in world auto sales. I can remember a day when I said I would never buy a Japanese car. I have now had one Toyota and four Hondas.
Back in the late 60s when Toyota first came to America, their cars were cheap -- in price and quality. But they really changed their reputation. Hyundai is doing a similar thing now. They first came with cheap, poor quality cars. But now, their cars seem to be much better.
I wish the American auto makers would make a similar change in image. However, I find it ironic that my Hondas are more American made now than most GMs.

1) Toyota got their by having engineers who realized it was just as easy to build something of quality as something cheap if you just put your mind to it;
2) Three years ago, most of those engineers who worked for Toyota got mad@ mngt. and left; a fair portion of them went to work for guess who....Hyundai!
