How 'Bout Them Mavs?

It's Friday! We have made it to the end of a really wierd weather week here. Usually after one day under 50, Beverly is longing for summer. After this week, I'm ready to join her. It's been a couple of weeks since I have played golf. I think I'm going into withdrawal.

I didn't just sit and watch the Mavs' game last night, but I had it on as I was doing other things. They made my day! It's always good to see Kobe and the Lakers get beat. And not just beat. They whupped the Lakers -- and made them like it. 114-95. And that was after letting up a little in the last few minutes.

I love watching a pouty premodonna getting beat. In the NBA, that would include Kobe, Shaq and Tim Duncan.

The Mavs are playing as well as I can ever remember a team playing. They are awesome! There's lots of talk in the Metroplex about Dirk deserving MVP. I would have no problem jumping on that bandwagon. I wonder if he really is, though. As much as I don't like Kobe, I would think if you took him away from the Lakers -- they are toast. Steve Nash is improving on his MVP numbers, but maybe the voters are ready for someone else after two straight years of Nash. So why not Dirk?

I'm one of those people who watches the Mavs play great during the season but thinking they will fold like a cheap tent come playoff time. I hope I'm wrong and would love to see Avery win a championship here.

Since I'm no fan of pro basketball (oversized egos and few fundamentals) I guess I don't enjoy the hype during the year anyway. Give me college basketball and I'm just finer than frog fur.

I watched the second half. Great game! I would try to convince you to remove Tim Duncan from your list of pro sleezballs. He's a David Robinson prodigy. Sure, he begs the officials, but I appreciate that you don't see him throwing around expletives when he gets tagged with a foul (when happens a lot). He's a team player.

John,

I did not suggest that Tim Duncan is a sleezeball. He is probably a really nice guy. I really used to like him. But there is no bigger whiner in the NBA. He thinks a draft of wind on his shoulder is a flagrant foul.

While I did not call Duncan a sleezeball, I would not put him in the "classy" class with David Robinson.

Rick,

The Mavs are playing great right now. One thing that has really stood out to me is how calm they are throughout the game whether they are leading or trailing. They never seem to go into panic mode in any situation. As for Kobe, I just soaked it in last night. I love to watch Kobe, Shaq, Iverson, and Wade get taken out behind the woodshed! Last night was a pretty thorough whipping! As far as Duncan goes you are right there is no way he is in the same class as Robinson. I'm sure David spends a lot of time shaking his head at little Timmy. Go Mavs!

Sigh. Only 10 more weeks until spring turkey season opens.
