Sorry For No Blog

It is now 11 AM my time. I have been trying to get on to write a blog all day, but have not been able to. We are getting ready to take one of our retiring secretaries out to lunch, so I will not be writing much today.

Let me just throw out a question to you that I posed to my class last night. If your family could be like any TV family, who would you choose?

If you are a reader of this blog -- I want to encourage you to join in and leave a comment at any time. It makes blogging more fun when there are people joining in the dialogue. So, let me hear from you.

The Musters come to mind. I grew up watching the Cosby show and the Huxtable family. Life seemed pretty good for them even when there were problems. Heathcliff (Bill Cosby) always did the right thing to make things better.
I struggle always doing the right thing. Patience, frustration, fear, confusion - they too often get in the way of me doing and being what I need to do and be. Fortunately, if I take a moment, I have an example of how to act and react to any situation. I only have to look for it.

Josh, I could have guessed yours. I have oftened wondered if you and Will Smith are related.

Cassey, I love those two families!

Jeff, you would fit well into the Munsters. I think I'll start calling you "Herman."

Jennifer and I remind me of the Cleavers (minus "da beav" and Wally. Personally, I think if I am just as wise as Ward, if not more so. I think Josh would remind me of Mike Brady (not on the camera, but off, think about it).

I don't wish to be like them, but Mom reminds me of Marie on Everybody loves Raymond.

I would like to be the Waltons (am I dating myself?). Hard working, moral people with a good name in the community.

Huxtables, for sure! I love Claire! Great marriage; great kids - funny, cute, warm, good boundaries -- just plain ol' healthy!

There was a show in the late 50's called "Father Knows Best" with Robert Young who went on to star in Marcus Welby MD. I can just imagine - me - sitting with my wife and kids and giving out all the adivse in the world because I "know best". And greater still, they listen and pay attention and follow through on all my words of wisdom. And everything works out just as planned because - "Father Knows Best". What a wonderful dream. Nevermind.

I think the Huxtables. They seem to be the closest thing to a real family on TV. They love each, have good family values, and the parents still expect respect from their children. They are actually being parents and let their kids know they are in charge. Wow!! What a concept these days!
