Heading to Ruidoso

Sunday, as soon as Beverly and I can slip away from church (which means, for her, when the last person has left the building), we will be heading to Ruidoso, New Mexico. We have rented a house in the mountains for a week. The kids (all of them!) will be coming up Monday.

Beverly and I have never skied, and we were so excited about the possibility of giving it a try. But they have had only 12 inches of snow this whole season. They say that some of the slopes are open, so we may still give it a try. If that doesn't work out, then we'll play some golf and do some hiking and shopping. No matter what, it's going to be a great time with the family.

I don't know if I will be able to blog while I am away or not. I am so appreciative of those of you who visit my blog site. I invite your comments. And please check in next week, but I will for sure be back the following Monday.

On a political note: I love George Bush, and have supported him even though his ratings are down right now. I appreciate his conviction to do what he believes is right even when it is not politically expedient. But I have to wonder: WHAT IS HE THINKING WITH THIS DUBAI PORT SITUATION!!!!! We have hundreds of millions of Moslems wanting to cut our heads off, and we are going to allow a UAR company to come in and have that kind of authority over what comes in and out of our ports? Doesn't that kind of define the old adage of "letting the fox in the chicken coop"?

Sorry, President Bush. But on this one, I am adamantly opposed. I love ya, man! But this is a no-brainer.

I don't know what to think about him. All I know is that he is a senator from Illinois and the Democrats see him as an up and comer.

If you believe the main stream media (who hates Bush) and congress (who many are in a re-election year), you would have thought the Prez had lost his mind. However, on closer examination it is the Coast Guard who has authority for what is allowed into the ports and the ports themselves are owned by the states they reside in. Dubai would oversee the management. The workers are American and most are union. I don't know about you, but if I am about to sink $6-$7 BILLION in a company the last thing I want is to start messing with union workers and the Coast Guard by attemping to allow terrorist into our country. Doesn't make sense. We need a moderate Arab state on our side and Dubai is such. Just because 2 of the 911 hijackers were from there does not make it a terrorist state. That is stereotyping. I think that this is a lot of posturing by those up for election. What happened to the 45 day waiting period for our leaders to review and advise? I am with the Prez on this one. As far as Barrack Obama - very left of center and considers himself out of the mold of Abe Lincoln - believes they have many similarities. Far from accurate - just read the guy's bio. Have fun in NM.

Anonymous,

Much of what you say is true. But the UAR does not have a sterling track record. They can still by our "friends" without giving them our ports. Yes, I know about the Coast Guard having authority, but they can't inspect but about 5% of what is coming in now. No thanks, I still don't want something of vital national interest in the hands of nations who have and continue to support terrorism. Stereotyping? Maybe. But we are fighting an enemy unlike any we have ever faced before. I would prefer to err on the side of caution.
